Heart for Africa is based in Hereford and Uganda, as we’re working in partnership with local pastor Deo to impact the community he grew up in. It began with a ‘coincidence’ meeting of Deo and Gary Snowzell in 2006, when their heart and vision made a connection that is changing lives everyday. The charity provides multiple levels of support and input into a particular community in the slum area of Kosovo Uganda. We have set up support programmes for education, clothing and food which are sustainable and ongoing rather than just one-off provision.
Also there have been two main trips out to the area in 2007 and 2009, where each time a team of around 25 volunteers worked on specific developments to aid this sustainable input. These included building an orphanage, a safe house for women in danger of prostitution, a kindergarden, a toilet block, general renovation of the already existing school and community projects to raise awareness about sexual health, mosquito nets and much more.
In 2008 around 100 acres of land was bought by the charity to provide a longer-term solution to food issues and even financial input for the community. We’re working in close connection with our African partners to make sure that our input is appropriate and right.
Each year we host a black tie event at the centre to raise funds for the project so keep your eyes open for an invite that might come your way. However, if you’re interested in some more information about how you or your school or maybe even workplace can support this grass-roots sustainable input that is starting to change a whole community, please contact the Heart for Africa team below.
